They passed through hands and across borders. Once traded for sheep, woven into leather, stitched into dresses. Now, two remain; faces smoothed, edges faded, displaying an invisible past that can only be felt.

Artist Inspiration

There was a time when silver didn’t come in sheets. Navajo makers used what they had: old coins, often dimes like these. Once traded across the Southwest, Mercury dimes found their way into belts, buttons, and beadwork. I keep that spirit intact. I don’t melt or reshape them. I let them speak for themselves, only helping them hang.

Lifestyle

Easy to wear, light on the ear. Worn with denim or linen, they add just enough. With a black dress, they catch light without asking for it. Lightweight and simple, they move quietly and confidently.

What are Mercury dimes?

Issued from 1916 to 1945, these 90% silver dimes show Liberty wearing a winged cap. Though often called "Mercury," the figure represents freedom of thought, not the Roman god.

Are the coins real?

Yes. Each earring uses an authentic U.S. Mercury dime, minted between 1916 and 1945 in 90% coin silver.

Will I get the exact pair in the photo?

No. Each pair is unique. Dates, wear patterns, and patina will vary, but all are carefully matched and built the same way.

Are they all the same year?

No. Each pair is unique. The years and wear will vary, but all are authentic and matched for balance.

Are the ear wires safe for sensitive ears?

Yes. The ear wires are sterling silver.

How will they be packaged?

Each pair arrives in an anti-tarnish jewelry box, ready to gift or store.

Do you clean or polish the coins?

Only lightly, to preserve their original character. Expect some natural marks from circulation.

Were these coins used in Navajo jewelry?

Yes. Mercury dimes were widely used by Navajo and other Indigenous silversmiths in the early to mid-20th century. They were often domed, stitched, or set into handmade jewelry and adornment.

Is this jewelry vintage or newly made?

The coins are vintage. The earrings are hand-assembled using modern sterling components and soldered findings.
