The turquoise provenance is unknown but pyrite is seen throughout. Hand-fabricated bezel, twist wire, and saw-cut detailing across half-round wire. The outer edge is framed with hand-pulled square wire. Braided cowhide leather cord. Sterling tips. Maker’s mark and “sterling” stamped on the back.
This design carries personal weight. My late uncle, Jerry N. Platero, used to saw these marks by hand—clean, deliberate cuts that stood out from everything else. He passed before he could teach me his ways. This bolo carries his memory forward. His work didn’t end. It shifted hands.
Artist Inspiration
The stone came without a label. That felt right for this piece. I spent more time on the silver—cutting the half-round by hand, pulling square wire, getting the frame tight but open. It didn’t need a name.
Lifestyle
Sharp enough for ceremony. Unfussy enough for denim. Holds center on the chest. Built to stay where you set it.
